About GNEP Africa

A youth-led initiative connecting climate research, policy, and education with practical community action across Africa.

Why GNEP was founded

Founded in January 2025 by Mohammed Labaran Sani in Katsina State, Nigeria, the Global Nature and Environmental Partnership (GNEP) was established in response to a clear gap: a need for youth-led platforms in Africa that connect credible environmental research with community-level action and civil society capacity.

GNEP emerged from the conviction that Africa's climate challenges can only be addressed through collaboration — linking researchers, community groups, schools, civil society organisations, and government institutions around shared goals.

What the name means

  • Global — Environmental problems cross borders. We believe solutions must too. GNEP works at the intersection of local action and broader regional and international frameworks.
  • Nature and Environmental — Our work centres ecosystems, water systems, land, and energy — the natural resources on which communities and economies depend.
  • Partnership — Progress depends on youth, communities, schools, researchers, civil society organisations, and institutions working together. Partnership is not incidental to GNEP — it is the method.

"Advancing climate action, environmental sustainability, and community resilience across Africa."

Our approach to reporting

GNEP is committed to evidence-informed action, strictly verified data reporting, and transparently crediting all community and institutional partners. We do not display unverified figures, claim credit for work we did not lead, or describe programmes as operating before they are active.
